Why convert PDF to Markdown?
Copying text out of a PDF usually gives you lines broken in the middle of sentences, page numbers and running headers mixed into the text, and no headings at all. That is because a PDF stores positioned pieces of text, not paragraphs and sections. Markdown needs that structure back.
The converter rebuilds it from the layout. It compares font sizes to find headings, recognises bullet and numbered lines as list items, joins lines that wrap within a paragraph, and removes text that repeats at the top or bottom of every page. The result is ready for a notes app, a knowledge base or an AI model, where Markdown uses far fewer tokens than the raw PDF text.
Some PDFs need help. Multi-column layouts and complex tables may come out in the wrong order, and scanned PDFs have no text at all: run them through OCR PDF first. For plain text without Markdown formatting, use PDF to Text.
