Saved as JPG, the format almost every form accepts. 1 KB is counted as 1,000 bytes, so the file also passes sites that use 1,024.

or drop photos, scans or signatures here. Each one is made 50 KB or smaller.

How to use the Compress Image to 50 KB

  1. 1Crop the photo to your head and shoulders, the way the form shows it.
  2. 2Click Choose images or drop your photo.
  3. 3Enter the pixel size if the form states one, such as 200 × 230.
  4. 4Download the JPG: it is 50 KB or smaller, usually between 45 and 50 KB.

Who asks for a photo under 50 KB?

50 KB is the classic limit for the photograph on Indian and Pakistani recruitment and exam forms. It is big enough for a clear passport-style headshot and small enough for portals that handle millions of applications. Here are limits we checked in official sources:

Who asks What File size Size
IBPS (India) bank exams Photograph 20–50 KB 200 × 230 px (preferred)
IBPS (India) bank exams Left thumb impression 20–50 KB 240 × 240 px at 200 DPI (about 3 × 3 cm)
PPSC (Punjab, Pakistan) Photograph up to 60 KB, JPG at least 4.5 cm high × 3.5 cm wide, white background

Sources: IBPS scanning guidelines published with each notice on ibps.in, and PPSC’s photograph requirements on ppsc.gop.pk. A 50 KB file also satisfies the 60 KB PPSC limit with room to spare. Limits change between notices, so check yours.

How the tool hits 50 KB

This page runs the Compress Image to KB engine with the target fixed at 50 KB. It measures real files rather than guessing:

  1. If your photo already fits at quality 92, you get that.
  2. Otherwise it searches for the highest JPG quality that stays at or under 50,000 bytes, stopping within about 3% of the target, so results usually land between 48 and 50 KB.
  3. Only if that is still too large does it reduce the pixel size, keeping the photo’s shape.

Landing near the top of the range matters for forms like IBPS that also have a 20 KB minimum: a result around 48 KB is safely inside 20–50 KB.

Worked examples

From our engine tests with a 50 KB target:

Original Result Quality Pixels
1920 × 1200 landscape, 420 KB 49.1 KB 45 1920 × 1200 (unchanged)
3840 × 1200 panorama, 1.25 MB 49.6 KB 58 2566 × 802

For an exam photo you would not keep a whole landscape, of course. Crop to head and shoulders first and enter the form’s pixel size. At 200 × 230 pixels, 50 KB is generous: the photo is saved at high quality and the file may only be 15–30 KB. If the form has a 20 KB minimum and your result is below it, leave max width and height empty (or use a larger crop), so the tool keeps more pixels.

Rough guide: 50 KB ≈ 200,000 pixels of photo at good quality ≈ 400 × 500

Step by step for an application photo

  1. Crop the photo to a passport-style frame with Crop Image, or make a proper passport photo with a plain background in Passport Photo Maker.
  2. Drop it here and type the pixel size from the notice (for IBPS: 200 and 230) as max width and height.
  3. Check the file size and quality shown in the list.
  4. Download the JPG. The file name ends in -50kb.jpg, so you can find it easily.

Thumb impressions and other documents

The same rules work for a left thumb impression: press your thumb on a blue or black ink pad, then on white paper, photograph it straight from above, crop it square, and enter 240 × 240 as the size. For the signature, which is usually limited to 10–20 KB, use Compress Image to 20 KB. For a handwritten declaration (often 50–100 KB), use Compress Image to 100 KB.

Tips for a photo that is not rejected

  • Plain light background, face centred, both ears visible, no caps or dark glasses.
  • Recent photo: many notices ask for one taken within the last few months.
  • Do not upscale a tiny photo: a 100-pixel thumbnail stretched to 200 × 230 looks blurry and can be rejected. Start from the original camera photo.
  • Batch: if several family members apply, drop all photos at once and download a ZIP.
  • Private: photos are compressed in your browser and never uploaded.

Frequently asked questions

How do I make a photo between 20 KB and 50 KB?

Drop it here: the tool aims just under 50 KB, so results normally land around 45–50 KB, inside a 20–50 KB range. Very small originals may come out under 20 KB; use a larger photo if that happens.

What pixel size should a 50 KB photo be?

Many forms ask for 200 × 230 pixels (IBPS). At that size 50 KB is generous and the photo stays sharp. Without a stated size, a 50 KB limit comfortably fits about 400 × 500 pixels.

Will my photo lose quality?

Only as much as needed. The tool tries the highest quality first and lowers it step by step, measuring the real file each time. If quality alone cannot reach 50 KB, it reduces the pixel size slightly instead.

Can I compress PNG or HEIC photos to 50 KB?

Yes. PNG, WebP, HEIC and other formats are converted to JPG, the format almost every application portal accepts.

Can I compress several photos to 50 KB at once?

Yes. Add as many as you like and download them all as a ZIP.

Are my photos uploaded?

No. Compression runs in your browser, so your photos and documents stay on your device.
