Converting square feet to square metres in real life
Property is the main reason for this conversion. Homes and offices are listed in square feet in the US, the UK, India, Pakistan and the Gulf, while European listings, building plans and many government forms use square metres. Flooring, paint and tiles are often sold by the square metre, so a room measured in feet needs converting before you buy.
Do not use the length factor for areas. A foot is 0.3048 m, but a square foot is 0.3048 × 0.3048 = 0.0929 m². Multiplying square feet by 0.3048 gives an answer more than three times too big. If you only have a room's length and width in feet, multiply them first to get square feet, then convert. For land in Pakistan and India, the marla to sq ft page covers local units.
