Worked examples
A 50 m² one-bedroom flat
50 m² ÷ 0.09290304 = 538.1955 sq ft

120 square metres = 1,291.6693 square feet. Just under 1,292 sq ft, a modest three-bedroom house by US standards.
Converting square metres to square feet in real life
If you are comparing a European, Australian or Chinese property listing in square metres with a home you know in square feet, or reading building plans drawn in metric for a buyer used to feet, you need this conversion. It also comes up with office space, where rents are quoted per square foot in the US and UK and per square metre in much of Europe.
A rough rule is to multiply by 10 and add 8%: 80 m² × 10 = 800, plus 64 = 864 sq ft (the exact answer is 861). Remember that listings measure differently: some include walls, balconies or shared areas and some do not, so a gap between two figures may be the measuring rule, not the conversion.
