or drop it here. Use a well-lit, straight-on photo of your head and shoulders.

Photo tips that avoid rejection
  • Face the camera straight on, with a neutral expression and your mouth closed. Keep both eyes open and visible.
  • Use soft, even light from the front: no shadows on your face or behind you, no flash glare, no red eye.
  • Stand about 1–1.5 m from a plain, light wall and have someone else take the photo at eye level. Selfies distort the face.
  • Remove hats and sunglasses. Religious head coverings are usually allowed if your face is fully visible.
  • Do not retouch, filter or beautify the photo. Use a photo taken in the last 6 months.

This tool sizes and positions your photo to the published rules, but only the passport or visa office decides whether a photo is accepted.

Your photo stays on your device. Nothing is uploaded.

How to use the NADRA Photo Size

  3. 3Click Download photo to save a 350 × 467 pixel JPG.
  4. 4Upload it in the photograph step of your Pak-ID application on the website or app.

NADRA photo requirements for Pak-ID

NADRA (the National Database and Registration Authority) lets Pakistanis at home and abroad apply online through Pak-ID for a CNIC, a NICOP (for overseas Pakistanis), a POC (Pakistan Origin Card) and related documents. Every online application needs a photograph. NADRA’s “Photograph Capturing and Uploading Guidelines” set these rules:

Rule Requirement
Background White
Size Not less than 350 × 467 pixels
Age of photo Not older than 6 months
Colour Colour only; black and white photos are not accepted
Pose Looking straight at the camera, sharp focus
Quality High quality, no ink marks or creases, good brightness and contrast
Eyes Clear, with no hair across the eyes
Glasses and caps Not allowed
Editing Original, without filters or layers, not altered in any way

Source: NADRA Pak-ID photo guidelines. That file blocks automated readers, so we read NADRA’s own PDF through the Internet Archive copy of 3 October 2023, which is identical to the copies archived from June 2022 to January 2024. NADRA does not publish a file size limit or a head size in that document; if the website or app shows a different rule when you apply, follow the website.

How this tool makes a NADRA photo

The frame above has the same shape as 350 × 467 pixels (3 : 4). The top line marks the top of your head and the shaded band shows where your chin should sit. Because NADRA does not publish a head size, the band follows the international ICAO passport standard: your face, chin to top of head, fills 70–80% of the height.

350 × 467 pixels → face 327 to 374 pixels tall at 70–80% of the height

Download photo draws your crop at exactly 350 × 467 pixels, the minimum NADRA accepts, as a high-quality JPG. Keeping to the minimum also keeps the file small (usually a few dozen KB), which helps if the upload form or your connection is slow.

Taking the photo at home

  1. White background: stand half a metre in front of a white wall, or hang a white bedsheet flat behind you.
  2. Even light from the front, for example facing a window. No shadows on the face or the wall.
  3. No glasses, no cap. Keep your hair away from your eyes. A dupatta or headscarf worn for religious reasons should not hide the face.
  4. Someone else takes it, from about 1.5 metres at eye level, with the normal camera. Do not use beauty filters; NADRA asks for photos without filters or layers.
  5. Look straight at the camera with a neutral expression and both eyes open.

NADRA’s example images reject photos that are blurred, too close, too far, looking away, off-centre, with glasses, sunglasses, a hat, an open mouth or a busy background.

Worked example: a NICOP from abroad

An overseas Pakistani in Saudi Arabia applies for a NICOP renewal on the Pak-ID website.

  1. They take a phone photo against a white wall, glasses off.
  2. They drop it here, zoom so the head fills the frame between the line and the band, and click Download photo.
  3. The file nadra-photo-350x467.jpg is uploaded in the photograph step. Fingerprints and signature are captured separately as the Pak-ID process explains.

If the background is not white

The Make background white button replaces the background with white using an AI model that runs entirely on your device (downloaded once, about 44–88 MB). NADRA asks for unaltered photos, so use this only if you cannot find a white wall, and check that your hair and face edges look natural.
